My students are eager to learn, but only if they have the opportunity to have choice, something they sometimes don’t receive at home. They like to wiggle and wobble, and feel free and comfortable in the classroom. Our school is a title 1 school, with over 80% poverty.
The students that I work with crave a classroom that not only fosters their learning needs, but also offers a place where they feel loved, safe, and comfortable.
By donating to our classroom, you are providing opportunities to children in need and building the foundation for a first year teacher's classroom!
In a world full of technology and the need for instant gratification, children seem to be having a hard time staying focused on their learning and the tasks at hand in the classroom. I have found that students who use tools while they learn prosper in the classroom.
For the students in my classroom, tools such as Legos, chair bands, and other fidget tools help them stay focused while they learn.
Not only are these tools going to be used to help students as they learn, but they will be featured in my "calming basket." A tool now used in several classrooms that help students while they take breaks from learning. The calming bucket is usually filled with things to help take students minds off of the problems they may be dealing with outside of the classroom to help them gather their thoughts and return to learning when they are ready.
This project is solely in place to gather items to help my students feel like they have the right tools to stay focused while they learn, and to feel safe and calm in their learning environment.
