My Students
I am a behavior interventionist for 2 elementary schools in the state of Maine. My job is to go into classrooms who have a student who is struggling behaviorally. I observe, create interventions, help implement them, and monitor their progress. There is a very strong need in this district for behavior interventions in the general education population in order to build and grow the continuum of services for the district. The goal is to keep students in the least restrictive environment and meet their social and emotional needs to reduce negative or disruptive behavior. Over 12 different languages are spoken between the two schools, and more than half of the students come from economically disadvantaged homes.
My Project
There are many adaptive tools in the world today- some students need glasses to help them see, and my students need fidgets such as finger rings to help them stay focused and on task. ADHD is prominent in classrooms around the world. It is my job as an educator to find creative ways to help these students manage their behavior and access their education without distracting the classroom.
Resources that help build social skills and social emotional regulation such as flash cards and social skill games are imperative.
There is a very high need in my building for appropriate social interaction and the ability to recognize and regulate emotions. I need items
