My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Some students have experienced trauma, homelessness, and poverty. These are just a few of the difficulties that our students go through on a daily basis. To help with some of the difficulties, our school supports all students by offering free breakfast and lunch.
I want to create a comfortable and engaging environment to help further support my students.
I hope to build better relationships, so students feel safe and welcomed in my classroom.
My Project
My students are in need of fidgets and stability balls that will allow them to work out energy and anxiety in a calm and safe manner. My students are dealing with a lot in their personal lives and the issues that plague them at home often carry over into the school environment. In an effort to help students focus and relieve anxiety, I have begun to incorporate fidgets such as squishy stress balls, marble snaps, monkey noodles and "wiggle" seats into my classroom.
My ultimate goal is to create a classroom environment that allows my students to be relaxed, happy, and focused.
As I introduced these tools to the class, I noticed a remarkable difference in the classroom environment. Stability balls and fidgets provide the students with an opportunity to work out wiggles and stress in a safe and non-distracting manner. These fidgets help my students who suffer from ADHD, ADD, Autism, and anxiety as well. Stability balls, fidget toys, and other stress relieving tools will help students focus and cut down on distracting behavior by focusing that behavior on the fidget item. The students and myself are so pleased with the results that we decided to add more of these fabulous tools to our room. I am hoping to add enough fidgets to the classrooms to meet the high demands for them. By adding more fidgets, my hope is that all students will always have access to these wonderful stress relieving tools.
