Help me give my students a variety of ways to reset their behavior. I am requesting fidgets for my students to use in their self-regulation spot. I also need whiteboards and markers to use for formative assessment.
I am teaching an amazing, diverse, interesting group of students this year! My four classes of sixth graders include a class of mainly ELL students and a co-taught sped. class. The most exciting thing about this group of kids is that they are so excited to learn math! For the first week of school, we worked on learning more about each other and about the expectations at school.
By the end of the week, they were begging to do the math!
I am so thankful to have the opportunity to help them reach better number sense and be successful in sixth-grade math and beyond!
My Project
My students often come from an environment that is not conducive to social-emotional growth. My school has several systems in place this year to help facilitate growth in these areas. One of these systems is that each classroom has a self-regulation spot. The goal of these spots is for students to reset their behavior without walking out of the classroom or being asked by there teacher to leave.
My personal goal this school year is to not have any students walk out and not ask any students to leave.
To help me achieve this goal, my students need a variety of ways to calm down once they are in the spot. I already have a lamp and some coloring sheets in my self-regulation spot. I would like to have some fidgets for students to be able to use.
In addition, I started with a blank slate in my classroom. I only had student desks and a teacher desk. To help my students with formative assessment, I am requesting whiteboards, dry erase pockets, and dry erase markers. My students thrive on instant feedback and it would be much easier to give to them if I had these tools.
