Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work for a Title 1 school. Our students come from all ranges of socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school offers free breakfast and lunch to all of our students due to the huge need. Some kids aren't able to buy all of their supplies. I, like many other educators in the building, are working with a very strict budget and while we would love to provide our students with all the things they deserve and need to nurture their creativity, it is hard. This is especially true when we do not have the financial resources that other schools have. Donors help bring smiles to my students' faces every day through the donations made and the materials purchased through DonorsChoose.org.
My Project
My students have always came to class focused and ready to learn. While they may start off ready to go in the morning, they definitely do not always stay focused throughout the course of the day. I recently found that some of the tools I received through Donors Choose actually helped a lot of my kids with ADHD and my students with a learning disability. I still have many students who would benefit from these same resources and am looking to do just that.
Students get restless, and I understand the need to get wiggles out, and these resources will help them do just that and remain focused on the lesson being taught.
This will also allow to aide in the minimization of distractions throughout the day. My students are at different learning levels and different levels of focus throughout the day. These wiggle cushions, and fidget manipulatives will allow them to focus their kinestetic energy and still remain engaged in the lesson and class work. Our Big Joe bags have been such a help with seating, that refill of beans is definitely needed at this time. Thank you donors for all you do.
