My students need the chair fidgets to allow for a safe way to fidget without flipping out of their chairs, as well as a safe place with a bean bag chair to calm down when overstimulated.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a unique blend of rural and urban. They face common issues that most inner city children encounter, such as parental drug use and imprisonment. Sadly, another layer is tacked on to these children as most are living in a rural area with an extremely low family income. With threats of school closure and little funding for staff and supplies they are at a huge disadvantage all around.
Regardless of their background we strive for our students to show GRIT, a distinct combination of passion, resilience, determination, and focus.
With this we hope it will allow them to maintain the discipline and optimism to persevere in their goals even in the face of discomfort, rejection, and a lack of visible progress for years, or even decades.
My Project
Multiple times a day students fall or flip out of their chairs because they are wiggling around, flipping the chair over, fidgeting with their legs wrapped around the chair and tipping the chair on two legs. The chair fidgets will allow the students to safely fidget and get that need for slight movement while staying safe at the same time.
Students today have many pressures put on them and having a place to clam down and reflect will allow them to begin the process of self-regulating their emotions.
Allowing a safe place to wiggle and a safe place to calm down is essential for today's hectic classroom. A Cool down place or a place to "freeze" can be created with the bean bag, a soft place to sit, the timer to allow them just the right amount of time, a relaxing bubble tube, stress ball and storage container to hold those items as well as coloring books, books for reading etc.
