The little engineers in my classroom are very excited and exercise their curiosity to the fullest extent. They strive hard to be successful and practice being critical thinkers daily. Our school's main focus is STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), so my ultimate goal is to ensure that my students receive an enriched education that leads them to be the best independent learners possible. They have shown that they love working on hands-on projects, especially in science and math this year.
Why do I have the feeling that reading books are becoming extinct? My students are in need of updated books that they can read that is also culturally relevant. The books we currently have are so old and outdated that my students hardly ever find them exciting. The goal of this project is for me to be able to teach a social and emotional reading lesson on self-image. My students will use these books to find relating information that will help build their self-esteem. My students will also use these books to help build their phonic skills and learn their high frequency words. Young independent readers definitely have a better chance to be successful in the future.
