Help me give my students the opportunity to explore anatomy and physiology in a hands on way. These fetal pigs will be used to help teach about mammalian anatomy and body systems.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello, and thank you for considering donating to my project. I teach at a small public charter high school in a low-income region of Long Beach, California. My students come from a diverse background, but what most of them have in common is that they have been given very few opportunities in life to be successful. These are kids that are trying to turn their lives around and are trying to better their own situation.
To give you an example of what types of students I serve, let me tell you a story about something that happened at the start of the school year.
During the first week of school, it came to our attention that one of our students wasn't coming to school because he did not have pants or shoes that fit him and he did not want to be made fun of. His mom couldn't afford to buy him new clothes at the moment, so we as a staff pooled our money to purchase pants and shoes for him so he could attend school.
I thank you in advance for helping give my students opportunities that they might not otherwise get.
My Project
Teaching students about how their own bodies work is such an important part of Biology and really makes what we learn in class relevant to their daily lives. Since the internal anatomy of a pig is very similar to the internal anatomy of a human, students are able to get a glimpse into what their own bodies look like beneath the skin.
In conjunction with the fetal pig dissection, students will also be learning about how these different organs and organ systems work by researching and putting together a creative presentation.
This will help support and reinforce their learning and really help them internalize the material.
