My students need felting supplies to embark on a new art making experience with this material that we have not been able to use before in our classroom.
I love exposing my students to a variety of media and art making experiences. I have been able to show them the power of working with clay, paint, drawing tools, and more. Felting has been a piece missing from our curriculum and this project will help them experience it for the first time!
I teach 7th and 8th grade public school students.
They are great artists who have had their work featured in magazines and competitions both locally and nationally. I love being a Middle School Art teacher because my students are always inspiring me to stretch our curriculum and try new things. I am hopeful that with your help, we will be able to add this project to our curriculum this school year.
My Project
I am requesting needles and wool to do a variety of felting processes. I have not taught this before and have wanted to acquire the materials needed to introduce this project into my classroom. My students will learn about the process of collecting the wool that is then felted to create fabric. We will discuss and learn the history of this process throughout our art making and study contemporary artists like Janice Arnold who use felting as a way to express ideas and communicate visually through their wall hangings. My students will learn the process of how this material is gathered and the ways it can be manipulated to express feelings and tell stories.
This project is important because it provides my classroom with the basic tools needed to start felting as a part of the curriculum in our Art program.
The donations will make a positive impact on my students because they will open the door to a new means of creative thinking and art making that my students would not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in making. I hope you will help us with the materials requested because I know it will make a great impact on the students I'm teaching.
