This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Imagine coming to work every day to be greeted by 15 little preschoolers who are full of energy and ready to see what preschool have to offer them.
I teach in a Head Start center in which the classrooms are divided into several play centers (housekeeping, blocks, manipulative, science, writing center, art, library, easel, and sand/water play).
These centers allow the students to learn through play, healthy play, which will reduce stress and open a child's imagination. Through play, the children learn and develop cognitive skills, physical abilities, new vocabulary, social skills, and literacy.
My Project
Excellent reading habits begin in the early years. Introducing children to literature in preschool supports kindergarten readiness, promotes early literacy and supports a love of language and reading.
What is a better way to encourage the love of reading than through puppets and felt stories, while the students are virtual learning from home.
This will allow story time to become more alive for the students than just listening to the teacher or watching a storybook video.
With puppets and felt stories, it don't have to be only the teachers putting on the show or retelling a story with the felt props, students can also use their imagination to retell the a story as the teacher display the props.
