My students need a variety of grade appropriate/leveled books for a fair opportunity for EACH ONE of them to become successful readers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How can we close the achievement gap when my students do not have the necessary materials needed to succeed? I have 21 AMAZING and eager first graders in my classroom. No two students are alike. I have students who range from non-readers to above level readers. All which deserve to have a variety of books to choose from and continue to grow and develop a love of reading and learning. Our classroom library has a small amount of books that only a very limited number of my students can read at this time. If we could get our hands-on a variety of leveled books, our students' needs could be met!
My Project
Straight out of college, I began teaching 2nd grade. This past year, I took a leap and joined “The First Grade Team.” If you have any experience in the teaching field you’ll know first grade is a crucial year for a student. They truly become readers, become curious and eager to learn.
I now teach 22 AMAZING first graders.
My classroom is the most diverse I’ve ever had. I have students reading levels ranging from non-readers-the beginning of 3rd grade level. I have library books that can be beneficial to my average to high readers, however, my students other students desperately want to read, but the amount of books I have at their level is scarce.
If this project were to be funded then I would finally be able to provide appropriately leveled books for my first grade class and the ones to come.
