This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 22 amazing first graders.
These 6 and 7-year-olds come to school every day with smiles on their faces ready to learn.
My students have a strong love for each other and our classroom. They like reading and curling up with a good book in my library.
They love morning meeting on our classroom sit spots, where we check in with one another and share our feelings. They also love using toys and manipulatives to help them with their learning!
My Project
Our school has recently seen a great improvement in behaviors with our focus on social emotional learning. Each student does a daily check in each day to share where they are! In the beginning of the year, students were more open to sharing their experiences out loud. I've noticed that sometimes students are a bit upset, but aren't comfortable sharing out loud. I would prefer to use these journals so that students can have a private place for them to share their feelings with me, so should they wish to do so.
