Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My school is a K-5th grade elementary school. It is in an urban setting where there is a high percentage of poverty.

The students come to my classroom excited to learn but unfortunately some carry a lot of stress from their personal lives.

Some come from very rough situations. Students sometimes carry that outside stress into the classroom and then have trouble focusing and doing their best.

The classroom is a safe spot for them so I want to give them some tools to help them get ready for a day of learning.

My Project

These items would be great for my classroom and the students would enjoy them.

The students will benefit from a space they can calm down if they are sad, mad, or just want a few minutes alone.

Emotions are hard to deal with especially when you are only a first grader.

These items will give an outlet to students to deal with some emotions and try to understand how they are feeling and how to deal with it. Whether they create a Lego figure showing their emotion or else reading a book about how to deal with the feeling on a comfy seat.
