I teach Integrated Preschool for ages 3 – 5. I teach in an economically diverse community in Massachusetts. Working in a district with little money to fund new and student based materials is difficult. I want to give my students materials to help them learn and grow the best to their ability. My students would thrive with materials that fit their needs.
Play, learn, and grow together.
That is what our classroom is all about. Half of my students are special needs and half are peer models. Several of my students struggle with social and emotional behaviors and have a history of trauma. I have many students on the Autism Spectrum who have sensory needs. Many of my students are hands-on learners and use their sense of touch and feel as their way to learn.
My Project
My students are hands-on learners who love to touch and explore. The two way sensory table will give my students their own space to explore through touch. The sand, beans, and corn will give my students the sensory output they crave.
My students need sensory output as a way to succeed.
The different types of tools in the two way sensory table will give my students different textures and help them create and explore with their hands.
The sensory tools like kinetic sand, white sand, beans and corn will help my students be successful and decompress to continue their day.
