My students are in special education but they do not let that slow them down. They are full of smiles and laughs and are trying hard to learn all that they can. They bring a smile to everyone that has the honor of knowing them. They enjoy the little things and are eager to join in whatever new learning adventure we have.
"We got this," has become our room motto.
There really is nothing that they will not try. We end each day with, "this has been the best day ever because (fill in the blank)." Not only, do I love hearing what their favorite part is, but I love that it is always the best day ever!
My Project
Students need rich print experiences to become readers. The most involved learners do not have access to conventional books because they need to have a multi-sensory experience to gain access. They need to hear it, feel it, smell it, touch it, and if it is safe, taste it to gain the beginning skills of reading.
We plan to engage all learners in literacy by making books that offer a wide variety of sensory experiences.
They can feel the alphabet or rub characters and items from popular stories while learning about turning pages, left to right, and what items might feel like. These items can be in a book or might be in a tub that accompanies a story.
The students will help to make and will use the books and bins to learn about vocabulary and literacy concepts that they otherwise might not have much access to.
