I teach at a Title 1 school where 60% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch, but that doesn’t hold us back. Kindergarten is a new beginning, and I love being able to share these experiences with my students. Every day is a chance for my students to come to school and be surrounded by people who love and support them.
My students come to school with a smile on their faces and are excited to learn every day.
They love collaborating with each other and working together in our classroom. They are caring and love helping one another in and out of the classroom.
In kindergarten, our learning is very hands-on and filled with engaging activities. A kindergartener's day is typically very long, and this can sometimes cause restlessness and inattentiveness. It is my hope to provide opportunities for my students to learn in the most safe and comfortable environment.
My Project
Flexible seating is an essential part of kindergarten. Kindergarten is the first year of formal schooling for most of my students. It can be very difficult for young children to transition from being at home making their own playful choices to being at school for the entire day. Sitting in hard, plastic chairs to complete learning activities is uncomfortable and difficult for my energetic and curious kindergartners. Flexible seating helps young learners move around in place, while still being completely engaged in their learning. It also provides a safe and appropriate way for any student to move their bodies. Balance balls, wobble chairs, and wiggle seats are high quality seating options for wiggling while working!

Young children learn actively. The more they can use their bodies, the better they can learn concepts. This project will change my students’ lives for the better because they will love school and feel success at an early age—having fun while learning!
