A typical day in my classroom has students deeply immersed in an integrated curriculum by reading and writing across social studies and science. They learn about a topic by reading, writing, speaking, listening, and interacting with it through different media, including art, and STEM tasks.
My students are wonderful caring individuals who learn best when taught in a variety of ways.
My students come from different backgrounds from around this world. Within my classroom, I have many different languages spoken, including Swahili, French, Arabic, and English. I have many children who are refugees, children who come from low-income homes, and children who are homeless.
My Project
I would like to have a small set of the novels: Save Me A Seat and Ms. Bixby's Last Day. These books would be used in a small group setting where students can discuss with each other the interactions between the characters.
Save Me A Seat is an amazing book about a student who moves to America and his struggle to fit in.
My students will love this story and most of them will be able to relate in some way - since almost all of them have moved schools and felt the awkwardness of learning to fit into a new school.
Mrs. Bixby's Last Day is a heartwarming story about a group of students who plan an adventure for their teacher.
