Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Title I school is located in Southern California surrounded by three correctional facilities. Last year, our school was funded allowing us to give every student a free lunch. We are praying we will be funded again for this coming year.
Our school population consists of 12% of our children who are in the foster care system.
That does not include the ones not registered which are currently being taken care of family members other than their bio father and mother.
My amazing class is full of energetic, sweet, and smart students within the grade levels of 3rd through 5th. Our class has been designed as a mild to moderate Special Academic Instruction (SAI) setting that has students with disabilities ranging from Autism to Emotionally Disturbed.
We are a self contained, full day special needs class with children who love to use all different types modalities to learn!
My Project
Often times, my students come to school in the same clothes day after day. Some families do not have enough money to buy food let alone hygiene products and clothes. In this project, I tried to cover some typical items that will be priceless to my students.
This project consists of ordinary items such as deodorant, soap, toothpaste, and socks.
The socks will keep both female and male feet warm and clean. My students are older and some are starting puberty. Deodorant, toothpaste, and shampoo and condition will assist not only to smell and stay healthy, but will boost my student's self-esteem. Teaching students with special needs, I do have a student that soils himself often. A few pants are being requested in order for him to wear clean clothes until his parents can come and pick him up or drop of his own clothes.
