Help me give my students a Native American hoop drum, handbells and hand drums that will teach them the essential concepts of the beat, and rhythm instruments such as the wood frog guiro and the kalimba.
Our kindergarten students love to look out our classroom windows. They offer an incredible view of the Wasatch Mountains to the east and the Great Salt Lake to the west. We are a small school, with limited resources but just like our view, we have incredible dreams.
We want to move to the beat of life.
Our class loves to engage in movement activities like the BrainDance. My students feel energized by the beat. It helps them in music, language, math, and science patterns. We want to feel the rhythm of the beat!
My Project
Beat is the essential rhythm of life. Our hearts beat. We walk to a beat. We also study sound in our science unit. We need a variety of rhythm instruments like tambourines, a ratchet, hand drums, desk bells, and castanets. Temple bells, a kalimba, and egg shakers will help us discover what vibrates to create sound.
My students need to feel that beat in music as they play drums.
Being able to keep the beat and play rhythms also lays a foundation for the cadence of language and the patterns in mathematics. One of our favorite movement activities is the "Brain Dance." These instruments will help us to activate all parts of our developing brains through movement and beat.
