Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Gerald Ford once said, “Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them – a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement. The future of our nation depends on providing our children with a complete education that includes music.” I truly believe this statement and teach with these sentiments! This community has overcome great obstacles being near the Gulf of Mexico. From floods to hurricanes our families bounce back ready and eager to continue in educational endeavors.

My Project

So many benefits come from having music education in schools. In addition to sparking creativity, statistics also show that there is improvement in listening skills. The brain works harder as the students read the music or simply participate in the the activity. This also promotes enhanced self-esteem and relieves stress.

This project will provide drum sticks, maracas, and other percussion instruments allowing for creative expression.

The request for different types of percussion instruments will also provide the students with hands-on experiences of various instruments. This gives them the opportunity to appreciate a wide range of musical instruments.
