My Students

My school is K-12 in a low-income small town in central Missouri. My music students are K-6. They have really enjoyed playing small instruments in the classroom this year, however, our supply of instruments is small and rather outdated, particularly the percussion instruments.

A new set of hand drums would be a great addition to our music classroom.

Many of our current percussion instruments have been in the music closet for 40+ years. Some of the instruments are starting to wear out and break due to age and long term use.

My Project

My students love to play small instruments, particularly drums. The drums available in my classroom are either torn up or very brittle from age.

The students would enjoy very much having new drums to play in our music classroom to accompany many songs we sing.

Playing a percussion instrument is a great way for students to start working on keeping a steady beat. They also work on many social skills while using small instruments in the music classroom such as; how to take turns, performing for fellow students and listening graciously to fellow students perform. Also just the joy of playing an instrument can be huge for a student.
