Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students have a long tradition of hard work and excellent musicianship. They come to school every day with a healthy dose of energy, creativity and potential. Even though the students are in middle school, the band has a reputation for marching in parades all across the state.
Our school is in Spencer, Oklahoma; a town full of history and community support.
My students love to learn and step up to the challenges they face in and out of school. We incorporate a variety of learning styles to make sure that each student's needs are met.
My Project
My students have shown a great interest in exploring instrumental music and need some materials to help them along their quest. These materials will help our students have the necessary items needed to become proficient as musicians and performers. A metronome is essential to the development of rhythmic integrity in students. The practice pads will allow the percussionist in each class (there's a total of 40 students spread across 3 band classes). Right now, out percussionist have to take turns and rotate playing. With the purchase of practice pads, I will be able to engage more students in the learning process as a large group.
