My Students

In my elementary music class, I see all 670 students in the school once a week. The students are excited to learn how to play various instruments, create new rhythms, sing and move to the music. The Covid 19 pandemic has brought on a whole new level of stress for the children in our school. I have noticed students are feeling more anxious and stressed about everyday life. I have found music is a way for the children to relieve stress and feel joy through creating, playing and moving to music. I have had many students tell me they love music class! My hope is that through creating music together I can reach the students who are feeling overwhelmed by the effects of the pandemic and help them feel successful and find joy. The music room is a place where all types of learners can be active participants and feel successful in learning to play music together.

My Project

Drumming is a way for students to safely release strong emotions while playing together as a group. The students learn various rhythm patterns and play them together on the drums. It is exhilarating for them to feel and hear the strong pulse of the drum. It's great fun and helps relieve stress!

The students will build a feeling of community and trust as they play together.

They also learn to listen and play together. These are skills that are helpful throughout life. Music feeds the spirit and soul! It brings great joy!
