Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I coach High School soccer in the south east side of Colorado Springs. This is considered the lower income side of town where I also teach art at the same school. My boys' soccer team is mostly Hispanic and come from lower income families. We have a really hard time trying to raise money at a school that has more than 70 percent of the students on the free lunch program. We are in need of soccer compression shirts and hoodies for the team during the cold weather in the fall.
These young athletes would like to be able to stay warm during the cold Colorado fall soccer games.
They deserve to have gear that all of the other schools in Colorado get to wear and use. We would really appreciate any help that we could get to be able to get this gear.
My Project
Confidence and pride is a key ingredient to make a winning team. Going to a game with the proper clean gear is a first step toward the right direction. When the other students see my athletes looking sharp and being leaders in the school it will help improve the environment for everyone in the scholastic community. Sierra does not except D's as a grade, either our students are passing with a C or better, or they are not passing at all. Other schools do not tie the athletes with such strict academic policies as we do here at Sierra High School. CHSAA rules say that the players have to wear matching compression shirts and pants or they can't wear any at all. This is why we could use some help with the proper gear.
