My students need snacks for between long classes and for after school activities. Studies show that people perform better when they are nourished. We allow snacks and water bottles, but not all kids can bring them.
If you walk into your school, you will see a community that welcomes all who enter. We are not a homogeneous group. We have students whose families lived here for generations; we have ELL students, children on free/reduced lunch, those who require accommodations due to special needs, and also your general, mainstream child. Our poverty rate has increased to over 35% in the last year, which has been a drastic change for our school.
It's hard for many of my students to get access to the materials and supplies, let alone experiences, vital to their education.
My goal with my DonorsChoose projects is to take that stress away.
My student learners are a mixture of individuals. They are gifted, ELL, special needs, and regular education with a variety of talents in many areas. We all come together, as one school, placed in a beautiful rural setting here in Ohio. Our students are energetic and become motivated to work when they have the right tools. I appreciate you wanting to help keep our classroom engaged!
My Project
The mental, social, and academic well being of all my students is the reason I became a teacher. Children matter, nothing else. In order to do so, I strive to purchase or request items that will help them succeed. Sure, kids need paper, pencils, technology, and books. But do we think of what else they need, outside of the 3 squares and the most thought of educational supplies?
Many students do not have access to snacks for after school activities or between 4 hour blocks, and they are hungry.
My goal is to stock shelves with snacks so that any student who does not have something to eat during grade level snack time or after school activities can gain access to this. It's a mission for me, to make sure my students, and even those students I do not know, are fed. Food gives energy, and high quality snacks made available for all children can help them feel energized, aiding them socially, emotionally, academically, and physically.
