This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are wise, bright, and brilliant. Sometimes, though, they turn into hungry monsters. As they said in the Snickers commercial, you're not yourself when you're hungry. Maslow's hierarchy of needs states that in order to self-actualize, one needs their physiological needs met.

As much as I love our food staff and how hard they work to feed our kids, my students still come into my class hungry.

The reality is that despite having free lunch available, for one reason or another, my students are still hungry. And the reality is also that they will have a much harder time learning when they are hungry, because all they can focus on is getting food in their stomachs.

That's where you and I come in. Having these snacks available will help my students be able to focus on biology more. As my classes and I were coming up with norms and needs for learning, the students have also made it known that without snacks, they find it hard to focus on the task at hand. I'm hoping that sticking to Pop Chips and Veggie Straws will at least make it somewhat healthy for them while giving them something they will be willing to eat.
