Ms. Myrick from Charlotte NC is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a computer that they can create various marketing materials (brochures, menus, advertisements) to promote class entrepreneurial projects, such as our student-run restaurant, as well as various fundraising entities through the school.

I teach Culinary Arts and Hospitality I and II at a large urban high school in Charlotte, North Carolina. These classes introduce students to basic food production, management, and service of a restaurant. The goal is to make students aware of the essential knowledge and skills that it takes to become a culinary professional, in addition to developing advanced professional skills needed for employment in the culinary industry.
My students are your typical teenagers.
One day everything is wonderful, the next day the world is coming to an end. Even on the worst days, they always come to my class, ready to work, ready to enjoy class. We have managed to create a family atmosphere where everyone feels safe and at home. They are hard workers who are 100% committed to the program. They have volunteered many times to stay after to school for catering events. I love that they are so dedicated to this program. Without my students believing in the brand we have built within the school, there is no program. They take pride in making this program the very best it can be.
My students are constantly coming up with wonderful ideas on how to promote our student-run restaurant, "The Mighty Lion." Often, it's challenging to bring these ideas to life because we are limited in the creating and design resources that we need. We have various projects that we conduct through the year, ranging from catering school events, to huge fundraisers such as our cupcake and Valentine's cake drive, to our weekly run restaurant. My students will learn to create computer-generated menus and marketing signage using their ideas, which will allow them to take total ownership of their learning. These marketing tools will allow them to promote their student-run restaurant just as you would any restaurant: McDonald's, Burger King, etc., while obtaining real-world hands-on knowledge of the food service industry.
