My students need new books on animals. Masters of Disguise by Rebecca Johnson will be perfect for my more reluctant readers because it has striking color photos and unusual animals.
Our school's library is one of the most popular places in our building. The library services nearly 800 students from different cultural and economic backgrounds. I am proud of the fact that students can find just what they need to meet a variety of reading interests and a range of abilities. Our comprehensive and growing collection is essential to meeting each student's needs.
Many of our students do not live near a public library, so they rely on their school library to meet their reading needs.
Do you remember visiting your school library? Did they have books you were interested in reading? Our students love visiting the library and last year checked out nearly 24,000. The best gift I can give my students is a growing collection filled with up-to-date resources.
My Project
Funding this project will bring 35 new titles on a wide variety of animals to our library's collection. I love each title, but I am especially excited about Unstoppable: True Stories of Amazing Bionic Animals. I know just the student I want to pair with this fascinating book.
I can't wait to do reading stations during library checkout with all these new titles.
I will finally have enough books to create an animal station for students to read and learn about their favorite creatures.
Our school has a large number of students that are achieving below grade level. Getting them to engage with text is essential for their reading progress. I know these gorgeous titles on animals will spark interest in even my most reluctant readers. Crow Smarts, Wolverines, and Gliding Animals are just a few of the works that have the potential to turn a student into a lifelong reader. I cannot wait to get these volumes into the hands of my students.
