My Students
Our students come from very diverse backgrounds. We have students who recently moved to this country and are learning English, students who have never left California, and everything in between.
Our students are avid readers--our library circulates over 20,000 books a year. For many of them, the school library is the only source of books, since this neighborhood is not close to the public library. The library is open before and after school and during lunches, and is packed with students at those times.
My Project
Our students love reading! They constantly are requesting new books, asking about the latest in a series, or hoping to find new authors.
We want to build our library collection to reflect ALL of our students! These books feature a wide diversity of characters so that all of our students can see themselves in books. Some titles have been requested directly by students, while others will complete a series for those students who have been eagerly awaiting sequels. All of them will fly off the shelves, as they are books that are from popular authors. We can't wait to start reading!
