Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a single gender class in a Title I school. There are 16 girls in my class who love to read, write, participate in number talks, math groups and learn every day. They come to school ready to learn and they are excited about new opportunities.
Being from a low-income and high poverty school, my students face several challenges daily inside and outside of the classroom.
One of my goals is to have a comfortable and safe environment where my students feel like they can be their creative selves all day.
My Project
It is always difficult to do anything on an empty stomach. All you can think about is "what's for lunch?" or "what's for snack?" Imagine having those thoughts as a 6 year old.
This project will help ensure that my students have a snack available daily, and breakfast items available when needed.
Items from this project will be given to students who miss breakfast because the bell rang and they did not have food at home, or students who do not have a snack at the end of the day before going home. Providing snacks for my students will help them focus on reading, writing and math, and not have to worry about an empty stomach.
