This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students from North East Washington D.C. are some of the resilient young men and women I have had the honor of working with in my 20 years of education. I have the honor of serving as the Athletic Director and coaching basketball and baseball coach. The majority of my students come from low-income households. I'm often with my student athletes at games and practice until 8 or 9 in the evening, and they often complain that they are hungry and ask me to buy them McDonalds or take them to the corner store for junk food, I keep a supply of fruit and healthy snacks to give them some healthy energy.

My Project

I am the athletic director and basketball and baseball coach at our school. I work with student athletes everyday after school sometimes until as late as 9pm on game nights. Our scholar athletes excel on the court, field, and classroom. They quite often complain they are hungry and ask me to take them to get fast food or junk food at the corner store. I try to keep a supply of healthy options, students always appreciate the snacks even though they aren't usually what they are used. Providing healthy snack is a necessity but it can be kind of pricey.
