Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a single gender class in a Title I school. There are 16 girls in my class who love to read, write, participate in number talks, math groups, and learn every day. They come to school ready to learn, and they are excited about new opportunities.
Being from a low-income and high poverty school, my students face several challenges daily inside and outside of the classroom.
One of my goals is to have a comfortable and safe environment where my students feel like they can be their creative selves all day.
My Project
It is always hard to work on an empty stomach. Your thoughts are always "what's for lunch?" "will I get a snack?" Imagine having those thoughts as a 6 year old.
This project will help ensure that my students have a snack available daily, and breakfast items when needed.
The pretzels, Pop-Tarts, goldfish crackers, and cookies will be given to students who miss breakfast because the bell rang before they arrived, or there was not food for them at home. This project will go towards providing snacks for my students to help them focus on their academics and before they go home where snacks and even dinner might not always be a given.
