I am working with a diverse group of students on the autism spectrum, as well as students with learning disabilities. These are students who will be working on social skills, life skills and employment skills. My students are in high school and we will be working mainly transition planning to help them be successful after high school.
The class will also be working on transition goals for after high school.
A big part of my program is to prepare my students with the tools they need to be successful after high school.
My Project
I am working with students on the autism spectrum and they very much need materials to help with sensory needs. My goal is to create a sensory rich classroom but we currently do not have very many resources. I am hoping others will reach out and help so my students can have a healthy sensory diet. Thank you for any help you can offer.
I am trying to provide my students with a safe place and a home base here at school.
They need to learn how to cope with a variety of emotions throughout the day. A sensory rich classroom would offer them a safe place to go in order to get support and decompression when they are overwhelmed.
I will be using the weighted vest for students on the spectrum that need pressure to feel calm and comfortable. I’ll use the social skills games to help teach students life skills needed to navigate the world after high school. I plan to use the other items to provide a calming corner of the classroom that meets the sensory needs of my students in order to cope with struggles throughout the day.
