This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fifth-grade students are always motivated to learn, love doing projects, and excited to use technology. They come from a bilingual household and attend a Detroit Public School in an impoverished area. Our school is one hundred years old with minimal upgrades. We rank seventy-first in the state as far as standardized test scores and took second place in a legos robotics competition. Even though our building is old, our staff is experienced in providing quality education in a safe and caring environment.

My Project

Students will use the gardening tools to clean up and clear the beds of soil and prepare for seed planting. Students will use the wheel barrel to move the leaves and twigs to our compost pile. We will also lay down planting soil that has a fertilizer in it. They will then plant beans, peppers, and tomatoes to grow during the summer for the local community. We will monitor the plant growth during summer school and share the results with the local community. Students will learn how to give back to the community and be proud of all their accomplishments.
