This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Some of my students come to me in the morning without having a meal since lunch the previous day. Other students come from homes where no English is spoken whatsoever. Some students come to me exhausted because they have been up all night babysitting their younger siblings. In some cases, my classroom is the most stability these kids see.
Knowing all of the trials and tribulations my kids encounter daily, I try and give them the most nurturing and positive environment I can offer.
With all of the obstacles my kids face every day, they always come into my classroom eager to learn with big smiles on their faces. All children are capable of being successful in school; we just need to give them the opportunity to do so.
My Project
Another school year has started and my students are eager to embark on this journey of learning. The school day is very long and rigorous, so their brains need to be nourished in order for them to perform at optimal performance.
The time between breakfast and lunch is long, and many of my students come to school without a snack.
I have found that students who do not have snack are usually more tired, irritable, and unwilling to work. My students who come with snack usually perform better than those who go without.
Many of my students experience homelessness as many of them come as refugees to this country. Some of them live in shelters, while others live with 3 or 4 other families. Without a permanent residence, the parents do not have a way to store food, which means many of my kids go without. With this project, I would be able to provide snacks for those who come to school with nothing.
With this project, I would be able to provide snacks for my class for the first semester of the school year. Having snacks available for everyone ensures that all children are given the chance to perform at their highest level. When our bodies are given proper nourishment, the possibilities are endless!
