This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach Kindergarten in Virginia. Our school receives federal funding for 100% of our students to have free breakfast, lunch, snack, and other Title I services. Kindergarten is all about learning the basic skills that we use daily- reading, addition, subtraction, telling time, conversation skills, and sharing to name a few. We work to give every child what they need for equitable and engaging education but can fall short due to funding.
My students are energetic and eager.
They come to school each day ready to be engaged, learn things that excite them, and feel the love in our room. I work hard to provide these opportunities for my students so they continue to love learning, build a deeper understanding, and grow their drive to trying new difficult tasks. Our class motto is, "I CAN DO HARD THINGS! THEY HELP ME GET STRONGER!" We would love for you to be a part of our classroom world!
My Project
I am looking for funding for snacks for our students.
Many of our students are food insecure, meaning they are unsure where their next meal is coming from.
This is a major issue that disrupts their learning. How can you focus on math when you are HANGRY?!
With this project I will be able to give my students snacks when they need it, so that learning can be our focus. They may needed it during reading before lunch. They could be grumpy and need a treat during math after lunch. We are getting ready to go home and a student is nervous about not having a snack from home, help me give it to them!!
