Our school is a health and nutrition school in a city district of New York. The school serves grades pre-kindergarten through three. We are a tight-knit school where the students love to be in school. The students need fun and engaging activities to foster their love of learning at a young age.
Many of them may not have access to these experiences at home, so I want to provide that for them in the classroom.
Many of my students come from immigrant homes where English is not the first language. This has not hindered their enthusiasm and curiosities. They have questions and ideas but are always in need of resources for inspiration and reference.
My Project
My students have finished our classroom bin of graphic novels and are in dire need of more titles to satiate their reading hunger! Help feed their hunger for more by donating to this project! My students absolutely LOVE graphic novels. It is one of our literacy centers and an incredibly popular one! We do literacy centers three times a week and each period, we do two sessions. Every student has an opportunity to read graphic novels a week. We have reached the point, where students have read and reread the titles we have. They are yearning for more!
Do you remember reading your first comic and being excited by the graphics and fast-paced storytelling?
I believe this is one of the major reasons my students love them! Graphic novels are great ways for my students to not only read for pleasure but graphic novels require a lot of inferencing from its readers, which is a huge skill in third grade! Please help fill our graphic novel bin!
