My students need healthy snacks to help get through their day. For many students, lunch at school is the only meal they get each day, and I want to help curb their hunger.
Despite the many obstacles that my students face each day, they are extraordinary. They are hard workers, good thinkers, and motivated young people.
My 6th grade classes are comprised of 80 wonderful students who deserve learning resources that are conducive to their individual learning styles.
Over 75% of my students are on free and reduced lunch and many come from homes with little to no parental support. We are very culturally diverse as well. The resources in our district are limited and students often times do not get the opportunity to experience unique materials that will enhance their learning. Despite all of these obstacles, our students are eager, willing, and capable of learning. I want them to have every advantage that they can get and want to provide them with that same experiences as peers their same age in more affluent districts. They deserve to succeed, and I want for each of them to know that they can be successful.
My Project
For some of my students, hunger is a huge roadblock to their educational journey. They are unable to focus on their work because they are worried about where their next meal will come from. Although I cannot feed them every meal, I would like to have different snack options for them to have when they felt they needed it. I am asking for granola bars, peanuts, and other healthy snacks for students to choose from. I feel that having a basket of healthy snacks available for all students will allow them to take what they need, when they need it to help them regain focus on the classwork that they need to do. These large snack packs from this project would allow my efforts to be more far reaching and help a greater number of students than I am able to on my own.
