This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students in this grade band of our school are an eager group of striving students who enjoy the safe, encouraging and compassionate environment myself, and the other teachers provide every day.
These wonderful, loving, vibrant young learners deserve opportunities and resources that will help to provide them an engaging, awe-inspiring learning environment.
95% of my students are economically disadvantaged and have social and emotional needs that could be disheartening to most adults, yet they arrive at school bright-eyed and eager. They have a burning desire to explore and learn and read or be read to.
My Project
Differentiated strategies and activities, along with personalized learning spaces will help spark interest in my students as well as keep them engaged. Many of the resources in my classroom are outdated and the learning space has not been refreshed and updated for many years. My position as a Reading Interventionist is new to my school this year -- students and teachers anticipate quite a few small groups will be accessing the Intervention Center.
The resources selected for this project will help meet the literacy needs of all students in our K5-8th grade school.
The materials will be utilized across different gradebands. Literacy stations will be created and be levelled.
