My Students
I work in a diverse district with students of all ability levels. The school has primarily students who come from poverty. Students range from non readers to above grade level readers. They have a desire to learn, but many times have difficulty getting the needed support to succeed. In my classroom alone, I have students above grade level, ELL (bilingual), special education, students at grade level, and students below grade level. They truly enjoy school and are interested in growing and becoming successful.
My Project
Research shows that if students are hungry they don't do as well in school. My classroom has a daily snack time, but many students do not bring in snacks. If I had the option of allowing students to have snacks in class it will lead to better learning and attention in class. These snacks will give students a variety of healthy choices to choose during snack time. Fruit snacks, crackers, pretzels, and snack bars are healthy option, but also things that kids love to eat. Students won't have to worry about going hungry if they don't have something from home to bring in. It is important that my students main focus is learning and growing, not worrying about being hungry.
