I am a dedicated high school resource room teacher in my hometown. The students that I work with are funny and energetic ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth graders. I am so lucky that when I work with students in the resource room, I am often working with them, one one one, or in small groups. This provides me with the time to form strong relationships with them.
I get great joy from being able to provide a comfortable, relaxing space in the resource room and to offer items that meet their basic needs as well as items that help them to be as productive as possible.
I also feel strongly that I need to help provide materials for project-based learning opportunities that they can use to express their learning in non-traditional ways.
My Project
My students need snacks for the days that they come to school hungry or become hungry during the day. My students, whether they qualify for free lunch or not, have days when they are hungry at school. Thanks to generous donors, I started a Caring Closet at the beginning of the school year, and it has been a blessing! It has helped so many students through a hard day or satisfied their hunger. Our cupboard is nearly bare and I am hoping to refill it.
Being able to provide a simple snack like peanuts, fruit snacks or a granola bar for the students to eat can make a huge difference in the student's day and increase their engagement in learning.
Donations to this project will offer food, love and caring to my students, all at the same time!
