I teach Academic Intervention Services to students in grades K-5. Our rural elementary school, in upstate New York, has a student population of 340 students. Students who are at risk of failing the New York State Assessments and students who are having difficulty academically are recommended to receive Academic Intervention Services.
My students come from a diverse, economic background, with a significant amount of students who receive free or reduced-priced lunch.
They are all very eager to learn and love coming to school. Our students are independent, hardworking, and compassionate.
My Project
I work with students in grades K-5 and many of my students show up to school without any snacks. Students need healthy snacks to keep them motivated and moving throughout the day. Keeping their bellies full will help to keep them focused on their learning tasks.
By giving my students proper healthy snacks throughout the day, they will have the ability to keep learning throughout their day.
I have many students that are embarrassed that they don't have a snack during our snack time. They often end up begging a friend for a piece of their snack. I try to keep snacks in my room to share with my students, but at this point in the year, I have run out of snacks.
This year has also been horrible with germs. So many of my students have missed school because of illness. The only way to help students stay healthy, and to keep them in school, is to keep our room clean with disinfecting wipes.
This gift card will allow me to go to our local grocery store to shop for healthy snacks that I can provide to my students to help them stay focused on their learning tasks. The gift card will also allow me to purchase disinfecting wipes, to keep germs out of our classroom. This will help my students stay healthy and miss fewer days of school. The only way students can learn, is to keep them in school. Providing my students with healthy and nutritious snacks, and keeping the germs away, will help my students to be successful learners!
