Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are fifth graders in a multicultural, urban community. We have an extremely limited budget with minimal support from our local government to fund basic supplies. These students love their neighborhood school because it creates a sense of community. This is especially important because many of the students come from broken homes. They are excited to learn but often times do not have access to the same materials that other students have from surrounding districts, which leaves them at a disadvantage.
My Project
My students want to read. They just need new books to read. They are passionate learners that have torn through the current library of books that we have. They are devouring our books so fast that I cannot keep up with the demand especially since they keep asking for more and more advanced novels. They are so into their reading that I hate to turn them away but unfortunately we don't have a budget for classroom books and all the books that I currently own were all funded by myself or other generous donors choose projects and unfortunately books cost a pretty penny! Help me feed my hungry readers with these new and exciting book titles like the Dear Dumb Diary series, Kane Chronicles, Magnus Chase, the Heroes of Olympus and many more!
