These kids are passionate, energetic, critical thinkers! They thrive on building relationships, connecting with each othe and embracing diversity. They are kind, compassionate and treat each other like family. This year, we had a student who was completely blind and it was his first year in a public school. The students went out of their way to help him, check on him, play with him, and make him feel like he was no different than any of them. Every adult who witnessed it almost couldn’t believe it! It was like they felt an intuitive need to take care of him.
The school day is long when you’re in 5th grade! Sometimes lunchtime doesn’t happen until late in the afternoon or worse, it’s over and done with before 12! With so much time left in the day and so much blood sugar lost, students need a snack to get them through. Unfortunately for our students, that isn’t always easy for their caretaker to provide. As teachers, we do the best we can to pick up a few boxes at the wholesale store, but that can get expensive for us too, especially when we have our own families to feed. A little help would make a world of difference for these hungry little minds!
