Each day many of our students have nothing to eat at their homes.
Our school is located in rural Ohio at the foothills of the Appalachian mountains.
Children of our school and their families had recently appeared Dateline's poverty program. Our school has 70% plus participation in the federal school lunch program.
Our project is the construction and continued use of a vegetable garden. Our goal is to teach the students about finding a sustainable way to feed themselves and their families. The materials that we are requesting will help the students sprout their seeds before the growing season to get a head start on planting.
Since school is the place where young people learn to become productive members of society, our garden project could not be better to fundamentally address that notion.
Being able to feeds oneself and one's family is a vital living skill.
