My students are normal people, like me and you, but do not always have the resources they need to have their basic needs met. Despite their challenges, they come to school daily and do their best to succeed. I often tell them things will get better and take it one day at a time, but I know that the difficulties they face will more than likely continue unless significant gains in access to food and school materials are made.
I am asking for donations because I regularly know what a student needs (snacks, water, three ring binder, dividers, notebook), but I do not always have the means to meet their needs.
I do often spend my own money; however, inevitably some students are without key resources because I cannot me the demand for support. With your funding, I will be able to help more students. Even small donations will go a long way because the materials I need are not expensive. Thank you for your consideration.
My Project
Working as a school psychologist at a Baltimore City Public High School has taught me that not all students are equally prepared to function well at school. Many students with whom I work do not have organizational skills because they have never had the materials to management their materials. Additionally, students are often hungry, regularly asking for food and drinks. In the past I have bought supplies for students but I am looking to start a school supply closet and basic food pantry for student in need.
Many people believe that tax dollars and parents/caregivers should be responsible for supplying these materials.
Regardless of what should or should not happen, I am asking for your donations because on a regular basis students come to me hungry and ill prepared. Donating will allow me to start a campaign at my school to meet students basic needs, which would allow them to learn and eventually become better more productive citizens.
