February and Birthday/Holidays Caring and Sharing Art Creations
My students need art supplies such as paint and paper as well as smocks and a laminator with pouches to create masterpieces, full of good memories that will last for their parents or caregivers to display and cherish which promotes good self-esteem.
Hello, I am a Head Start teacher at a Title One school. My school provides high quality educational services for children that live at or below the poverty rate for household income.
Despite the children’s financial dilemma, the children come to school eager to learn.
Most of their parents have a little education and/or are low income but all parents try their best to participate and volunteer in the program for great success in their child’s learning and education.
We have a very diverse classroom from Native American, Latino, to Swahili and American.
My Project
Children in my classroom always want to make things for their parents or loved ones, for special holidays like Valentine’s day and birthdays. The children love to use magnet strips to hang on their refrigerators for whole house displays. The children like to use various varieties of art materials to create their own masterpieces. As the teacher, I'm lucky if I sometimes manage to get the projects laminated. With a laminate machine inside the classroom, getting the projects delivered would be a guarantee. The various art materials will connect and continuously allow the children to the create loving memories for their caregivers and/or parents, for different diverse holidays such as send a card to a friend day on Feb.7, Super bowl Sunday on Feb. 4, Valentine day on Feb.14, and Chinese New Year’s Feb.16. The materials may be able to extend to Grandparents day cards that we have planned so we need all these materials as well. Parents cherish the art children bring home, that is durable and everlasting. Sending home projects/creations that are meaningful and laminated will allow the receiver to keep it longer than a project that has not been. The clothes that the children come to school in need to be protected while doing open art activities. The art smocks will ensure that the children's clothes are protected so they can feel proud when they wear them again, minus the stains from art creations. When the children come to me and tell me their parents birthday is that day, the child makes a creation for their parents. Some parents come in with tears, sharing that their child's gift touched their heart and it was their only gift. Knowing that we are connecting families together, with masterpieces that could be held on to, is so great.
