My students are inquisitive and love to wonder about the world. In our second grade classrooms, our own love and excitement to teach as teachers shows in our students drive to learn. We explore our learning through the inquiry process and focus on hands-on activities and connections made through our lessons. We work together as a team to make sure every child experiences the same enriching activities. This is why this project is for all our second graders. The greatest reward in teaching is watching a child's excitement build and their drive to learn more.
My Project
This project will give our second grade students an opportunity to examine first hand the life cycle of an animal and be able to explore over time the growth and development of that animal. The incubators will allow the eggs to develop and hatch into chicks over time, and the egg candlers will allow students to explore and watch the development of the chicks as they grow inside the eggs.
Students are fascinated by animals and with this project, their excitement and understanding of the life cycle will develop their respect and awareness of life.
This project enriches the PYP Unit we are about to explore, "Sharing Our Planet." It will focus on our Science Standards, which include summarizing and comparing the life cycle of animals and how animals resemble their parents as well grouping organisms with their characteristics.
