My students need durable headphones for our fluency center to become better readers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students want to become better readers and writers. Every day within our daily 5 stations each student has an opportunity to read to self or to a partner. I like for the students to record their readings and listen to them. It would really be awesome for out class to have durable headphones to add to our fluency station.
Many of my students are enthusiastic about learning.
However, 75% of my students are reading well below grade level. One of the most frustrating aspects of learning to read is learning to read fluently. If the students can listen to their own reading, they adjust their style, fluency, and increase comprehension. My goal is to not only help improve their reading comprehension and fluency but also to help increase their desire/motivation to read. Reading is important because good readers become good writers and reading is a skill that is essential to all subject areas. Therefore, my students would greatly benefit from having headphones to listen to grade level reading material, record their fluency passages and work on
My students will use our Fearless Fluency center each day in our daily 5 stations during reading and throughout the day. My students will be able to listen to books on tape independently and complete a variety of comprehension and fluency activities using b their headphones. Also, the headphones would be used during instruction for small group during guided reading.
It is a quick and easy way to practice fluency with my students.
I will take a short text that the student is not familiar with. Read it aloud to the students. I will need to read it a little slower than usual for this activity. As I read, I will time myself. Once the passage is complete, The students will read the same passage aloud, while trying to beat my time! Students will repeat this activity a few times in the fluency center. They will then play their recordings back and listen to the sounds of their voices, annotate what they have read on their fluency sheet. They can do this with a partner or alone. This strategy will improve my students reading skills.
