My students need financial assistance to assist with their registration costs to attend FBLA National Competition where they will compete alongside ~12,000 other business students.
The Future of American (and Global) business is in my classroom! Although they come from a small town in Western KY, these students have proven over and over that they can interact with, compete against, and network with students from other countries, private/magnet schools, and more affluent school districts...and come out on top. Business education students in our department have the opportunity to join FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) where they can participate in various community service opportunities, job shadowing activities, and compete in various events on both the Regional, State, and National level. These opportunities are invaluable to their education and build their resumes into competitive advertisements that will serve them well for scholarship applications and job interviews.
My students are driven to excel and don't wait for opportunities to come to them, rather they are the ones doing the pursing.
Our school climate is one of "be involved, work hard, and earn it." Yes, we are in a rural area. Yes, we are from an economic status that qualifies our entire school for free and reduced lunch. However, using that as an excuse is not an option under my watch.
My Project
For months, 61 of my students worked with great dedication to compete in events such as Securities and Investments, Marketing, Emerging Business Issues, and Accounting. FBLA Regional Competition came and 54 of 61 students WON and 28 of them were named Regional Champions. It was an amazing testament of what hard work looks like. Competing on the State level will bring about even higher stakes against more polished competition. So, to get the right to attend Nationals is, frankly, a big deal!
Traveling to a National Conference is something they have earned and that will open doors for them that would otherwise remain closed.
Let's be frank, traveling to this conference will cost each student at least $1000 total. And for some of my students, that amount is just not realistic at all. They have fundraised all year to help our chapter get to Regionals and to State, and now, our funds have been depleted. Oh how I would love to tell the students that at least part of their expenses have been covered by people who believe in them! We are seeking help with our conference registration, $115 per student.
